MATC Students Recipients of 2nd Annual Oklahoma First Scholarships

The ‘Oklahoma First Scholarships’ have been awarded to four Wayne High School seniors. Each of these well-deserving students are scheduled to complete their MATC programs in May of 2024.

Sean Baker is a student in the Pre-Engineering program; Gonzalo Perez is enrolled in the Cosmetology program; Ethan Trejo is a student in the Welding program; and Wyatt Webster is enrolled in the CNC Machinist program. Each of these students will be starting their careers in their chosen field of study and/or pursuing higher education.

Jim Webster, who has been a consistent supporter of MATC students, is sponsoring the 'Oklahoma First Scholarships'. The students who received these scholarships were interviewed by Jim Webster, Joe McGowen, and Billy Lucas who are all proud alumnus of Wayne Public Schools. These men are grateful to be fortunate enough to be able to give back to their hometown and assist students in starting their careers.

This $12,000 scholarship will be equally distributed among these four students. The students will use their scholarships to help pay tuition, purchase career-related equipment, and cover associated expenses.

Mr. Webster also gave a $3000 donation to become the inaugural donor to the newly formed Mid-America Technology Center Foundation. The foundation’s goal is to obtain funding to enhance educational prospects and elevate the well-being of Mid-America Technology Center students. The support provided may vary for each student, encompassing items such as uniforms, meals, scholarships, and more. The foundation will also help keep the MATC Mercantile shelves stocked.
